Luminate helps builders manage the financial side of construction projects. They needed an all-in-one platform to handle tasks, budgets, draws, payments, liens and change orders.
The challenge
Existing tools were either too simplistic or required multiple systems stitched together. Luminate’s non-technical founders wanted an integrated solution that worked on mobile devices and pushed updates to the field via SMS.
Our approach
We began with market research to identify best practices in construction finance software. We then worked with Luminate’s team to map user workflows and prioritise features. A clear architecture was drafted showing how budgets, tasks and payment processes would connect. We provided a written plan and timeline so the founders understood each step.
Implementation
Our developers built the platform in modules, starting with core budget and task management. We integrated a messaging system that sent real-time notifications via SMS, ensuring field teams knew when draws or change orders were approved. Weekly demos helped the founders understand how the system was evolving without needing to read code. Each sprint ended with a checkpoint, and any adjustments were agreed before the next phase.
Outcome and impact
Within seven months Luminate had a working platform that consolidated its financial workflows. The platform reduced administrative overhead, improved communication between office and site, and provided a clear audit trail for every transaction. The structured approach, regular communication and transparent milestones gave the non-technical founders confidence and let us launch on schedule.
